Awesome ACK!

Tuesday, August 10th, 2010

Seeing a new part of the country is always a cool experience, but even more so when escaping the hot, hot summer of Charleston.  (No offense, Charleston, your weather is pretty amazing all year round, but the heat is getting a little old.)  I want to wear scarves, I want to wear boots, I want Fall!  And, we got a little hint of that in Nantucket.  Ahhhh, it was amazing and a breath of fresh air!

It was great introducing the Library Collection to a whole new group of customers – the response was great…they loved the Jane Pope Jewelry too!  Jane was blowing out of her stackable rings!  Check out our set-up at the Vanessa Noel Hotel Green and some other highlights from our trip (which mostly include places we ate, there’s unbelieve eats in Nantucket as well)!  I can’t wait to go back…next time I think I will go strictly for fun and check out the picturesque beaches I’ve heard about!

Some other sights!  The Starlight Theatre & Cafe, views of the water and one of the best restaurants in town, The Pearl, where Martha Stewart nibbled on lobster rangoon while we were in town!

Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Swim 2011 in MIAMI!

Wednesday, July 21st, 2010

I arrived in Miami Saturday morning and like getting in to any city, the first thing I want to do is find the vintage!!  I hopped in my rental cherry red Mustang, plugged in my GPS and hit the road!  I found GOLD…the designer jackpot!  Miami’s sources of vintage are endless…I love that Charleston has a direct flight there for future trips!  Steal a look at what’s to come on the web!!

The main reason I was there, though was for Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Swim 2011.  Hot South Beach streets were buzzing with long legged models, swim designers, jewelry designers, photographers, magazine editors, buyers and celebrities to see new swimwear collections shown mostly at the Raleigh and also one show at Nikki Beach and the Bass Museum.

Our favorite, of course was Marysia Swim’s collection.  Words that describe Marysia Reeves’ new collection are soft, fresh, fresh-faced, sophisticated, chic, cohesive, clear vision…I could go on and on.  The pictures will show for themselves.  We are so happy for her; she is truly a talented desinger.  And speaking of talented designers, Jane Pope Cooper of Jane Pope Jewelry & Balboa Jewelry must be included!  Jane bejeweled Marysia’s models with her amazingly natural Jane Pope Jewelry.  It was the perfect complement to the swimwear…the models backstage were begging to keep the pieces!!  I am lucky to have a couple of my own!

Also, Jane has added new pieces to the Jane Pope collection.  Check out the turquoise rings and necklaces flanked in rubies and chocolate diamonds that add a burst of color along with earthy moonstone rings and earrings.  I am obsessed!  So were the Melissa Blanchard and Susan Lane Steiner of Van Jean in Columbia, South Carolina.  They came by our room at The Raleigh to indulge in their own JPJ pieces and also some for their store.  I loved seeing both of these ladies and can’t wait to make a day trip to their amazing store to see what’s new in for Fall!  They always have a well edited buy of the most amazing Philip Lim pieces…I think my schedule will open up soon…who’s along for the ride?

All in all, the trip was a success in everyway!  Meeting, talking and mingling with people that have the same love for fashion as I do was so much fun!  And, seeing the productions come together was simply INSPIRING!

Blaire Dorsey Photography at Novel.

Wednesday, April 21st, 2010

We were thrilled when the talented Kentucky artist, Blaire Dorsey (my beautiful cousin), agreed to hang her work at Novel., our pop up shop in Downtown Charleston for the month of April.  Her photos capture such a cool vibe of the small town, Sayulita, tucked away in the lush jungles just outside of Puerta Vallarta, Mexico.  You’ll love them – especially the ones framed in reclaimed barn wood!  (Very fitting this Earth Day)!

So, come have a look and grab them up before they are gone! We are popping out of here April 30th.

Novel. Artist, Ruth Campbell featured on CHARLIE

When Charleston’s tough job market took a turn for the worse last year, one local recession baby hit the beach – literally.

Interior designer Ruth Campbell began gathering inspiration, and objects, from the beach around her Sullivan’s Island home to create incredibly unique home furnishings and decor.

The self-professed “home-decorating magazine freak” draws ideas from the world around her – everything from vintage advertisements to bold wallpaper prints inspire her. By blending prints and fabrics with natural beach finds (think colorful fan coral, driftwood and preserved sand dollars), Campbell is able to capture the vibrant essence of Sullivan’s Island in tidy pieces that mix well with any room’s motif.

Her line of home accessories, Libbie Home, was developed by chance during a lull between jobs in May 2009. In an effort to prove to her husband that her recent creations were more than “arts and crafts projects,” the ex-Domino Magazine editor began selling her pieces on the website Etsy. All it took was one sale for a hobby to become a business, and as each piece is one of a kind and handmade, Campbell has to work hard to keep items in stock.

Libbie Home is currently being sold at the month-long shop Novel, located at 438 King Street, which will run until March 31st. The temporary store features several local names and offers a range of items from jewelry and fashion to art and home furnishings. Campbell’s first piece of furniture, a driftwood table, will also be available.

With the weather still borderlining on unseasonably chilly (and rainy), perhaps bringing the beach inside will remind Mother Nature that Charleston is, indeed, a beach town.
